Marvel-Disney film THE AVENGERS has collected more than 3, 200 crores ($642 million) worldwide in ten days of its release. It has beaten almost all existing weekend box office records in North America by a wide margin collecting more than $200 million over the weekend. HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 held the previous record ($170 million).
However, almost 70% of the film’s box office collections ($442 million) have come from overseas territories including China, Russia, and India, while excluding Japan where the film releases in August. Almost $110 million is the contribution of Asia and the other BRIC nation Brazil in the global box office pie of the film so far. It has collected over 31 crores in its ten-day run in India itself.
Though its Indian business is far below AVATAR, the humongous Hollywood blockbuster in India with over 100 crores in BO collections, it is poised to do better than the other big grossers like SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.
