Dibakar on LSD: Sex is the most natural thing

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 4:13:03 PM (IST) | Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade Editorial

LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA is up for release and one wonders about the real requirement of making a controversial film like this for the consumption of wider audience on the big screen. Why not let the sleeping horses lie? Why bring on a film which may face not just the ire of the Censors but also society in general?

"My argument for this would be why not", counter challenges Dibakar, "Don't we make so many action films all the while? Let's start from the beginning. Have you ever shot or butchered a person? The answer is no. Do you mind a person being a shot on the street? The answer is yes. But the fact is that there is at least one film released every week where at least one such act of violence is shown. However, you still go ahead and watch it without many complaints."

"This brings me to a fundamental question. Have you had sex? There is very good probability that your answer would be yes! So why shy away from seeing a film around this theme? Why hide it? Why not talk about it? After all this is the most natural thing between a man and a woman. On the other hand the most unnatural thing between two humans would be one taking another's life. When something like that is so much available for even 'family audiences' in the age group of 7-70, why have problems with a film like LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA", continues Dibakar.

It is this reality factor which is said to be the USP of LSD, a co-production of Ekta Kapoor/Shobha Kapoor and Priya Sreedharan (who was incidentally also the Executive Producer of OYE LUCKY! LUCKY OYE!). A digital film with (clichéd as it may sound) a hidden camera playing a character by itself, LSD features a bunch of newcomers with no mainstream trappings to it. Also, sex and voyeurism form a major driving force of the narrative of this film which is now ready for release on 19th March.
