Irrfan Khan: I can entertain people in many ways

He may have made a 5 second appearance in the promo of THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN but he has definitely made his presence felt. For someone who has always claimed to have faith in quality of cinema rather than quantity and has hardly bothered about the screen time that he manages to get in a film, he seem to be moving in the right direction to reach his goal, what with SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER 2 being his next film where he has a pivotal part to play.
However, Irrfan does admit that there have been times when he has made a faux pas and end results haven't turned out to be the kind that he had envisaged. "See, I can entertain people in different ways and get into the psyche of a character," he says after a brief pause, "Ab depend karta hai ki end result kaisa ban kar aaye. Kabhi film dekh kar logono ko maza aata hai, kabhi gaali bhi dete hain. Sometimes as an actor even you are surprised because when you step into a film, your intentions are always right as long as you are not doing it just for money."
No wonder, even in his biggest commercial film till date where a lot of money was involved, THANK YOU (which released exactly a year ago), he was the only one who had come out unscathed even though many had come down heavily on it.
"If it wasn't for director Anees Bazmee, I wouldn't have enjoyed the role as much. Contrary to some who feel that I was sort of trapped in doing the film, it was not the case at all," says Irrfan in an earnest tone, "I had a great time shooting for it and there were so many scenes where character traits were developed on the spot. It was a different kind of exercise for me and I was glad too since it allowed me to break away from my usual setting and get pushed into a different direction."
Well, here is hoping that he is indeed moving in the right direction with THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN.
