Born in the 80s, neither Shahid Kapoor nor his co-star Priyanka Chopra has seen the Bombay of the 60s. However, their director Kunal Kohli made it possible for them by recreating the era in their upcoming film TERI MERI KAHAANI. While many a filmmaker in the past have gone back to the 60s and the 70s and set their films there, their attention has been mainly towards getting the indoor ambience right along with the costumes. However Kunal has gone a step ahead by getting some VFX in place as well that has ensured that an altogether new landscape of Bombay would be up for grabs.
"With all due respect to Milan Luthria who set his wonderfully directed ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI and THE DIRTY PICTURE in the 70s and the 80s respectively, they didn't really have many scenes that actually depicted Bombay as it looked back then. He as well as Vipul Shah (for ACTION REPLAYY) really ensured that everything was perfect when it came to the costumes, props as well as those limited portions of the film that were shot outdoors. However there weren't many references to the landmark spots of Bombay. TERI MERI KAHAANI would take a step ahead in that direction," informs a source.
However Kunal was conscious that he didn't overdo his visit back in time and continued to concentrate on the story rather than gimmicks.
"Yes, you would see Bombay of the 60s like never before but that is not something that I am using as the selling point here," says Kunal in a cautious tone, "I have used tools of technology to present a different landscape of Bombay but not made it as the very essence of the film. At the end of the day it is a love story and that's what audience would feel and sense."
TERI MERI KAHAANI releases all over on 22nd June.
